Job Summary
Landscape gardeners responsible for designing, installing, and maintaining outdoor landscapes for commercial and residential properties. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong horticultural knowledge, and a passion for creating beautiful outdoor spaces.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with clients to understand their vision for their outdoor space and provide recommendations and suggestions.
- Install plant beds, trees, shrubs, and other soft landscaping elements, ensuring that they are properly spaced, watered, and cared for.
- Knowledge of materials, tools, and techniques used in landscaping construction such as concrete, timber, paving etc.
- Perform regular maintenance tasks, such as fertilizing, pruning, and watering, to keep landscapes healthy and looking their best.
- Diagnose and treat plant diseases and pests as needed.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest trends in landscape design and horticulture.
- Operate and maintain gardening tools and equipment, including mowers, edgers, blowers, and trimmers.
- Operate landscaping tools and equipment safely, including drills, saws, hammers, compaction machines, and power tools.
- Ensure that all safety procedures are followed when working with equipment and materials.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure that projects are completed on time and to the client's satisfaction.
- Any other reasonable duties as assigned by management.
Key Skills Required
- Proven experience in landscape gardening preferred.
- Strong knowledge of horticulture, including plant identification, planting techniques, and maintenance practices.
- Knowledge of plant care and propagation, including soil preparation, watering, pruning,
- fertilization, and pest control.
- Knowledge of materials, tools, and techniques used in landscaping construction.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with clients and team members.
- Ability to operate and maintain gardening equipment and tools safely and effectively.
- Physical fitness and the ability to work in all weather conditions.
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to keep accurate records of hours worked and materials used on jobs.
- Right to work in NZ
Education And Experience
- 1 - 3 years of experience in a landscaping position, preferably with management experience.
- Level 3 Certification in horticulture, Level 3 Certification in Landscape Construction or similar qualification.
- First Aid Level 1
- GrowSafe certificate.
- Internal BLGL training courses, including Ladder Safety & Digger Operation.
